After venturing out onto snowy Ontario route 17 and escaping the mini blizzard that was pummeling Sudbury, a few hours of better roads took us to Sault ste Marie where we crossed the bridge high above the Soo locks and entered Michigan.
Our route was to be the M-28, straight across Michigan's "upper peninsula". After about 2 hours, the road neared the shore of Lake Superior where we were treated to views of giant breakers washing up on sandy beaches and rocky coast. It was just like being on the ocean.
We stopped a few times for pictures of the surf and finally found a quiet boat launch protected by trees from the wind off the lake and any noise from the nearby highway. A quiet place to spend the night. Supper included, appropriately, some PEI scallops from our friend Lenore.
