More Anti-Vaxx Nitwittery
A FB user called Rob Dyck decided to respond to one of my comments about COVID, vaccines, the “trucker” convoy and other matters.
Rob Dyck: No, we're talking about the vaccine mandate. An experimental drug that has already killed thousands of people. That's worldwide, not just in Canada, but these COVID vaccines have already killed more people than the total of all the deaths due to vaccine injury for every vaccine ever developed anywhere in the world since the invention of vaccines. And many people who haven't died have suffered other other harms. Furthermore, a paper published in the journal Science last November detailed a study on vaccine effectiveness. the Pfizer vaccine was 35% effective against the Delta variant, 43.3% effective at preventing infection overall for all variants that existed in the United States at the time of the study. The study was last September, before Omicron. Moderna was 58% effective overall, and Johnson & Johnson 13.1% effective overall. Again this was before Omicron. And these statistics are for people who have the booster. Pfizer was 87% effective when it was first approved in December 2020, and it's still 87% effective against the Alpha variant, but with these new variants the vaccines are little more than a placebo. They're neither safe nor effective. All the TV ads the government bought with taxpayer money will not change that.
This is Canada. Under Canadian law coercing an individual to take a medication that he/she does not want is criminal assault. Depriving an individual of gainful employment unless that individual takes an experimental drug that has already proven to be neither safe nor effective? That's criminal.
Or do you still not understand that these experimental vaccines are not the same as other vaccines? The Polio vaccine was 99.9% effective at preventing infection. It required 3 shots, the first shot was only 90% effective, but with all 3 it was 99.9%. That effectiveness meant the disease could not survive in the body of someone vaccinated so the disease could not produce variants. Polio is not an RNA virus; there has never been a vaccine for any RNA virus before. One problem is any RNA virus mutates so damn fast that it produces variants so quickly that the vaccine will become useless before you have time to vaccinate the population. Oh, wait! That's exactly what happened with these COVID vaccines! Are you beginning to get it?
Furthermore, mRNA has never been used for any vaccine before. It's experimental and has already proven unsafe. Many individuals have myocarditis and pericarditis. Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, pericarditis is the sack surrounding the heart fills with fluid. Both can subside, but they cause permanent irreversible heart damage. And in some cases individuals get multi-organ inflammation. That's because the immune system sees spike proteins for the virus coming from cells of the body. The immune system assumes these cells are infected, so attacks them. That means the mRNA vaccines cause a type of autoimmune syndrome. Inflammation of organs is very serious, life threatening.
The trucker protest started when Justin Trudeau brought in a rule that truckers are not allowed to cross the border unless they have proof of vaccination. That deprived them of gainful employment, they had nothing better to do than to protest to get their jobs back. If that rule was eliminated, they would just go back to work. End of protest. I realize some fools think this was about an attempt to remove the government, but it wasn't. All they wanted was removal of the COVID restrictions. And what I'm saying is you didn't need to remove them all, just the vaccine mandate. The requirement to take an experimental drug that has already proven to be unsafe and ineffective.
Justin Trudeau announced that travellers don't require a PCR test to enter Canada anymore, but proof of vaccination is required. That's backwards!
I decided to refute his points:
From beginning to end, your comment contains falsehoods and, given that we're now 2 years from the start of this pandemic, they must be called willful falsehoods. Lies, if you like.
There are NO laws, orders or anything else, that forces anyone to get vaccinated unless they choose to take part in certain activities (none of which are considered essential) or unless they choose to work in certain careers. The choice is still yours. What you cannot choose, though, is to infect others with your negligence.
Furthermore, it seems as though most of these requirements would be completely legal, as explained here:
https://www.tcwalkerlawyers.com/the-legality-of-mandatory-vaccination-policies-vaccine-mandates/
You might not like the “mandates”, but that doesn't make them illegal, unnecessary or dangerous. They are, in fact, a reasonable response to a dangerous pathogen.
The COVID vaccines simply HAVE NOT killed large numbers of people. Nothing supports that contention.
It's silly to call these vaccines “experimental”. As of March 7th, 2022, almost 11 BILLION doses of various COVID-19 vaccines have been administered around the world.
And although these vaccines have only been recently approved (as of late 2020 and early 2021), vaccines are not new to medical science, they have a proven track record of saving lives and even the RNA vaccines have been under development for close to 20 years.
https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2021/the-long-history-of-mrna-vaccines
And, although the anti-vaxx cult loves to focus on RNA vaccines, the fact remains that two types of RNA are found naturally in most cells of our bodies where they are central to the synthesis of proteins.
Your “data” on vaccine effectiveness is a good example of cherry picking from sites that happen to push the narrative that you believe in. Reputable sources do not agree:
https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/covid-19-vaccine-comparison
RNA actually HAS been used in vaccines before COVID. One of the first was a vaccine for Ebola, but since there was no commercial interest in the USA (Ebola being a disease primarily found in Africa) it wasn't developed at the time.
https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2021/the-long-history-of-mrna-vaccines
You go on and on about RNA vaccines and how new they are. In Canada, for instance, there are 6 COVID vaccines that have been approved. Only 2 of them are RNA vaccines. That leaves 4 more that might appear more “traditional” to you. There are also 4 different technologies in use here. Quick question: do you use smoke signals for communication or a cell phone? One of those is “new” and the other is traditional.
The fact that there have been few (not none, just few) vaccines against RNA viruses is a challenge and an opportunity. A challenge and an opportunity that the two leading mRNA vaccines have met.
Do you always just give up when new and challenging situations present themselves? Thankfully most scientists don't.
Myocarditis and related conditions can happen post-vaccination, but they are rare and are actually far more common following an infection from the virus. In fact, the risk of myocarditis post vaccine (perhaps 0.011%) is almost vanishingly small compared to the risk of myocarditis following a COVID infection (as high as 73 per million). Note that nearly ALL of these cases resolve themselves quickly with no lasting effects.
Yes, viruses do mutate, and mutations are especially likely in unvaccinated people or in countries where there is a large pool of unvaccinated people. Virus mutation is an argument FOR rapid vaccination, not against.
Full vaccination has been shown to suppress virus mutation frequency.

The requirement for truckers to be vaccinated in order to cross back into Canada had been signaled for months. The US has a similar requirement, meaning that truckers wouldn't be able to get into the USA anyway. As you should know, international travel has been restricted and not advised for almost 2 years. One clear reason is the risk of bringing back a virus to Canada that wasn't here before. Vaccination will help mitigate that risk, even though YOU don't believe it. The data is clear on this.
And, quite frankly, full vaccination would pretty much negate the necessity of any testing, PCR or otherwise, because fully vaccinated individuals are far, far less likely to be carrying the virus.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/coronavirus-covid-19/fully-vaccinated
Some trucking companies indicated that since most of their drivers were vaccinated, they would just use the unvaccinated drivers within Canada. So there really wasn't an issue to begin with. Just a manufactured issue with a few people who disliked the government.
So all this furor was just concocted theater to cover up an attempted insurrection. An example of mob rule and nothing else.
So, I've gone to the trouble to find real facts to support my position., What do you have? YouTube videos and testimonials from anti-vaccine “champions”?

This Word Endemic - What Could it Really Mean?
After 2 years of this COVID pandemic and as people tire of various restrictions, closures and minor inconveniences, we hear the phrase "Learning to Live with the Virus". People, many of who never heard the word "Endemic" before this year, are tossing it around as if it's exactly where we are and we just need to move on. This scenario is apt:
Note: Some of this post relies on a Nature.com podcast that appeared on February 4th, 2022, called:
Coronapod: What People Get Wrong About Endemic COVID
Which in turn relied on another Nature article posted January 24, 2022, called COVID-19 - Endemic Doesn't Mean Harmless.
First, some definitions:
And remember, while the enemy is at the gates, it doesn't matter if we're tired of it or not.
Snippets from the Attempted Insurrection
It's February 17th, 2022. The Attempted Insurrection in Ottawa is now over the 3-week mark.
This is a timeline from start to now:
Apparently one DQ franchise decided to get in on the action: Reaction was, predictably, mixed. I have already decided not to support certain businesses because they seem to believe they can flout public health orders.
Outbursts from tamper-tantrum throwing "adults" pop up on a random basis. This is a recent one from Oliver, BC. The tattooed anti-vaxxer was caught on video and later fined with other charges possible related to racist epithets hurled at some students.
For any claiming terrible psychological trauma being visited on kids because of masks, we might consider this:
I'd suggest professional psychological intervention for Silke. Poor dear. Some are calling her Truck Convoy Karen. A real shame. She obviously had a future as a piece of tattoo artistry. She's an anti-vaxxer, probably subscribing to fake stories about the dangers of COVID vaccines. I wonder if she knows of the possible risks from tattoo ink?
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Canada, the blockade at the Coutts border crossing was taken down after 13 people were arrested. Some details about the arrested people were made available today. A fine, upstanding young bunch, from what we can tell.
Earlier details about those arrested and the charges they are facing is in this article.
The Federal government has brought in the Emergencies Act. It still astounds me what actions a government can take, even in a democracy, to maintain law and order. It reminds me of the various militia organizations in the USA, ostensibly in place to guard against government tyranny. My feeling is that if push came to shove, those militias would be nothing more than cinders once the Marines were finished with them.
In Ottawa, blockades are going up. Police blockades this time. The time for fraternizing with the terrorists seems to be over. Incompetence has to give way to action.
And, for the record, one article addressing any possible concerns some might still have about the vaccines.
More to come.

Unproven COVID Treatment Methods
Just for the record, Wikipedia has been keeping a list.
List of Unproven Methods Against COVID.
Do NOT try these at home.

Questions for Anti-Vaxxers
I discovered this the other day and don't want to lose it because of all the useful links it contains, not to mention the questions (and answers) that it provides. So it's posted here, unedited.
